Comments and Information Intended for Publication

If OCR411 enables comments, event submissions or other features that allow information to be submitted for publication, information intended for public display may become publicly available.

For example, a published submission might identify a race, organization, contributor name or website if that information was supplied for publication.

Email addresses submitted through ordinary forms are not intended to be publicly displayed unless the person submitting the information specifically requests or authorizes publication.

OCR411 may review, edit, decline, moderate or remove submitted material in accordance with its site policies.

Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, OCR411 and the services used to operate it may automatically receive technical and usage information when you visit the site.

Depending on the service and configuration, this information may include:

  • Pages and URLs visited
  • Date and approximate time of visits
  • Referring website or source
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type
  • Operating system
  • Screen or device characteristics
  • Approximate geographic location
  • Interaction and engagement information
  • Cookie or similar identifiers
  • Internet Protocol (IP) address information processed by hosting, security, analytics or network providers

Web hosting, security and server systems may also maintain logs necessary to deliver the website, diagnose technical problems, detect abuse and protect the site.

Google Analytics

OCR411 uses Google Analytics 4 (“Google Analytics” or “GA4”), a website measurement service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use the site.

Google Analytics can provide aggregated and pseudonymous reporting about matters such as page views, traffic sources, general geographic areas, browser and device characteristics, sessions and visitor interactions with the website.

When a browser communicates with Google Analytics, certain information is transmitted to Google. This can include the URL of the page being visited and an IP address as part of the network request.

According to Google, GA4 uses IP-address information for functions including routing, service operation and deriving coarse geographic information. Google states that raw IP addresses are discarded after use and are not made available to OCR411 as raw IP addresses in Google Analytics reports.

Google Analytics may also process browser, device, page, session and interaction information in accordance with OCR411’s Analytics configuration and Google’s applicable terms and privacy practices.

For additional information about Google’s processing of information from websites that use Google services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

OCR411 and services used by the site may use cookies or similar technologies.

Cookies are small pieces of information stored by a browser. They may be used for purposes such as maintaining website functionality, remembering preferences, distinguishing visits, measuring website usage, preventing abuse and supporting analytics.

Google Analytics 4 commonly uses first-party cookies including _ga and cookies beginning with _ga_ to distinguish users and maintain session information. Cookie duration can depend on browser behavior, site configuration, consent settings and changes made by Google.

You can generally delete, restrict or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect some website functionality and may not prevent every type of technical information from being transmitted when you request a webpage.

Analytics Is Used for Site Measurement

OCR411 uses analytics information to understand matters such as which pages are useful, how visitors find the site, which devices and browsers are commonly used, whether pages function properly and how the site can be improved.

OCR411 does not need or intend to use Google Analytics to identify individual visitors by name.

Affiliate Links

OCR411 may participate in affiliate programs and may contain links through which OCR411 can earn a commission or other referral compensation.

When you click an affiliate link, you may leave OCR411 and interact with a third-party merchant, race organization, affiliate network or service provider. That third party may collect information and use cookies or other technologies according to its own privacy policy.

OCR411 does not control the privacy practices of a third-party website merely because OCR411 links to it or participates in an affiliate program involving that company.

See the Affiliate Disclosure for additional information about commercial relationships.

Third-Party Websites and Services

OCR411 contains links to third-party websites, including race organizers, retailers, manufacturers, research sources, public-health resources and other websites.

When you follow a link to another website, the privacy policy and practices of that third party apply to your interaction with that website.

OCR411 is not responsible for the privacy, security or data-handling practices of independently operated third-party websites.

Service Providers

OCR411 may use third-party service providers to operate and maintain the website.

Depending on the site’s configuration, these providers may include companies providing:

  • Website hosting and infrastructure
  • Domain and network services
  • Website security and spam prevention
  • Form processing
  • Email delivery
  • Website analytics
  • Backup and technical support services

These providers may process information as necessary to provide their services and according to their respective contractual obligations and privacy practices.

Sale of Personal Information

OCR411 does not sell personal information to third parties for monetary payment.

OCR411 does use third-party services, including Google Analytics, as described in this Policy. Privacy laws in some jurisdictions use terms such as “sale,” “sharing” and “targeted advertising” in specialized ways that are broader than an ordinary monetary sale.

If OCR411 later implements advertising, remarketing or another technology that requires additional disclosure or an opt-out mechanism under applicable law, this Policy and the site’s privacy controls will be updated as appropriate.

Data Retention

OCR411 retains information for no longer than reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to legitimate operational, security, recordkeeping and legal needs.

For example, contact messages may be retained while an inquiry is being handled and afterward when reasonably necessary for records, corrections, dispute resolution or site administration.

Analytics and technical information may be retained according to the configuration and retention controls of Google Analytics, hosting providers and other services used by OCR411.

Backup systems may retain copies for an additional period before those copies are overwritten or deleted through normal backup rotation.

Data Security

OCR411 uses reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the nature of the website and the information it handles.

However, no website, transmission method, hosting system or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. OCR411 therefore cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to or stored through the site.

Depending on where you live and whether a particular privacy law applies to OCR411, you may have rights concerning personal information associated with you.

  • Opt-out rights where legally applicable

You may submit a privacy request through the Contact page. Please identify the request as a Privacy Request and provide enough information for OCR411 to understand and, when required, authenticate the request.

If applicable law gives you a right to appeal OCR411’s decision regarding a privacy request, you may use the same Contact page and clearly state that you are requesting an appeal or reconsideration of the previous privacy decision.

OCR411 is operated under a Virginia-based legal framework. The Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act provides specified privacy rights when the law applies to a particular controller and consumer.

Nothing in this Policy is intended to waive or restrict a privacy right that cannot legally be waived or restricted.

Children’s Privacy

OCR411 is a general-audience informational website and is not directed to children under 13.

OCR411 does not knowingly solicit personal information from children under 13 through its general website forms.

If a parent or legal guardian believes that a child under 13 has submitted personal information to OCR411, the parent or guardian may contact OCR411 through the Contact page so the matter can be reviewed and appropriate action taken.

OCR411 may update this Privacy Policy as the website, its services, technologies or legal requirements change.

The “Last updated” date at the top of this page identifies the most recent revision. Where applicable law requires additional notice or consent for a material change, OCR411 will address that requirement as appropriate.
